“Unaccountable”: The most important word in Whitman’s astronomer poem

“When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer” by Walt Whitman is a popular poem to teach. I often begin semesters with it. Why? It’s short, easy to digest, and students can relate to a dude who gets sick and tired of hearing a lecture. Haven’t we all been there and done that?
